[ it seems like a mostly innocent question, but prompto already knows the answer to it. mostly, he just doesn't want to be alone with his thoughts and he's not even sure what time it is. not bedtime since he's not in the apartment, apparently. ]
It would depend on the night. If I cannot sleep because of too much coffee, I read or solve puzzles If I cannot sleep because I'm too tired, I just keep trying
Any particular reason you ask? Have you problems sleeping?
[On the morning of the 23rd, Ignis will wake up to find Noctis mysteriously missing. In his place, resting upon his pillow, will be a small handmade envelope with his handwriting sprawling across the front:
Roses are red Violets are blue This a game That I made just for you
Complete your quest by any measure For at the end lies something you treasure
Always yours - Noctis
Inside the envelope a heart can be found, made out of light blue paper and folded carefully in half. It also carries that same handwriting, only this time in the form a riddle:
It has a million stories but cannot tell them
Hint: Probably because they may have been eaten
Your challenge, should you choose to accept it, is to find him by sundown. Good luck, oh noble adviser.]
[Well this is an odd surprise. Ignis didn't expect to start the morning with solving riddles, especially not ones Noctis made. Didn't he say he was bad at those? Well, in any case, this looks like it could be fun, and the answer is obvious, even without the hint.
He puts on the clothes and heads out, making his way to the Library. He can hear the Librarian scuttling around on top of some shelves but that's the usual business.
Hello, and I hope this finds you well. My name is Miriam, and I've found your name under the registry as well as your info highlighting your expertise in the culinary field.
I'm trying to organize a schedule for people to help feed the troops, so to speak. I've noticed that for an insanely varied group of people in this village, a lot of them don't know how to make anything beyond canned soup. There's no obligation, but should you have free time on occasion, I'd love to have you. Maybe we can discuss this over lunch?
Warm regards, -Miriam Maisel
PS. Pastrami should be served with what bread? (It's a test.)
It is an honor to meet you. Yes, I have been cooking for a bigger part of my life, although mostly for my friends. I attended culinary classes and found out I actually enjoy it more than I anticipated.
Your cause is gracious and generous and I will be more than happy to lend you a hand with cooking. I have helped out with food preparations in large quantities in the past and I know how time-consuming and hard it can be. We can discuss it whenever you have free time.
Best wishes, -Ignis Scientia
PS. I saw a lot of people prepare pastrami in different ways. However, I still prefer to serve it with freshly baked rye bread.
[ On the morning of the 25th, Ignis might find a small wrapped parcel on his doorstep containing cookie cutters in various shapes. There is also a rolling pin which someone has carved flowers and swirls into, in order to impress onto dough. There is a small card that reads "To Ignis, From Aziraphale." ]
[ Come the morning of the 25th, Luna's been a busy girl. This is her first 'Christmas', it's nothing she'd celebrated at home, and she wants to do something for Ignis especially.
On his bed, he will find a dark blue tin. There's a dried, pressed blue flower lying on top of it for decoration, along with a note. Inside, the tin is full of familiar pastries.
The note reads:
'Dearest Ignis, You are one of my most beloved, treasured friends. I know that right now, it is hard for you. I am here for you, should you need someone to lean on, an ear to talk into, or a shoulder to cry on. You are someone that I hold so very close to my heart, more than I think you will ever truly know.
Please know that I will do anything and everything in my power to help you, whether it is in a fight or should it come to matters of the heart. Please never hesitate to come to me, should you need it.
[ Happy holidays! There's a little box of homemade cookies for Ignis even though Midge doesn't celebrate Christmas. She figures the cheer will be needed, regardless. There's a note attached: ]
Thank you for being competent in the kitchen. Enjoy! -Miriam
[Attached is a picture taken just outside the church. It's a small army of tiny snowmen (no taller than 5-10 inches) or perhaps more accurately snow sigillaria. If you look, each snowman has an initial on its belly to correspond to the people Jason considers himself close to. Written in the snow are the words: Happy Saturnalia & Merry Christmas.
He couldn't find enough gifts for everyone he wanted to, so he sculpted these an sent out a sort of Christmas card instead. Of course, the snowmen are still there in person for the foreseeable future.]
A ridiculously sealed note is left at Ignis' place. When he finally is able to open it - why? so much tape?? - he'll see the following message written in a surprisingly neat cursive script:
Hi Mr. Ignis,
I wanted to let you and the others who fell asleep during the events and had dreamt of the past(?) of Beacon this info: You can write to Dr. Solis and share your experience with her.
You can leave your letter over at the Post Office whenever you want to get around to that. Postmaster General will send your letter to her.
[It was, probably, the most wonderful thing to greet him in the morning in this place. He happily texts back.]
Thank you, Noct. I will be in the kitchen when you wake up. I will be very happy if you were to join me.
[He will be baking (like that's something new) and drinking coffee. He'll be sitting at the kitchen table with the device when Noctis comes around, a basket with muffins in the middle and mug in his hand as he reads through updates and reports.]
As Ignis is moving through Bonfire Square, he'll notice a hunched figure hidden in the shadows, just outside the general store. The creature appears to be nothing more than a mass of shuffling leaves with a mask affixed to the center of where a head should be. It looks through a potato sack of canned goods it seems to have pilfered from the store. Abruptly, it seems to notice the light from Ignis' lantern, and snaps to look his way. The mask that it wears is missing a chunk from the right side of what should be a face. Instead, there's nothing more than an open cavern and blistered flesh where an eye should be. After a tense instant, it gathers its sack and runs toward the treeline.
Even if Ignis follows, he'll find that the creature has disappeared.
Ignis, for a moment, he thought someone camouflaged themselves to steal candy. He's not sure if he's relieved or no to find out it's a spirit. Peculiar...
The tense, weird moment of a staredown before creature flees. He better, Ignis doesn't like when someone messes with food like this! Tsktsk... He'll follow after the spirit for a bit, until it completely disappears, maybe gather several cans and tins it dropped from the sack.
