[It has been a while since Ignis felt genuine fear, so he just stares at the device, willing himself not to give more "be careful" advises. He sounds like a goddamn broken record.]
Very well I will be in our room when you arrive. There are few croissants in the kitchen if you're hungry
Not in everything. I definitively can't fish. Or warp. Or nap as long as you do. Or have as much compassion as you do. Don't sell yourself short, darling.
[Yes, he hears and he's relieved. He's in bed, as promised, under the covers, but propped up against pillows, texting with Noct and waiting for him. He's in an unbuttoned shirt and sleeping pants, glasses resting on the side table. The device soon joins them and Ignis turns his head towards the door, expecting Noct to enter.]
[There's the smallest pause at the bottom of the stairs, where he slips off his boots and out of his jacket. So when the door finally clicks open and he enters, all he has to do is put his lantern down atop the near by dresser. Before sliding into the bed and lifting himself onto Ignis' lap in a straddle, hands reaching out to intertwine their fingers.]
[There's a softest breath of relief when Noctis enters the room and Ignis' lips curve into a smile. A genuine, warm smile. He lifts the covers so Noct can climb in and wraps the blankets back around when Noct is settled on his lap. Their fingers entwine and Ignis presses soft kiss to Noct's lips.]
[He feels it. The shift in the air around them. How the tension seems to disappear all at once with his presence. Silently he thanks whichever God is looking down upon them that he's able to provide this for Ignis. That's he's able to finally give back the same comfort he had always gotten.]
They better be. [Another soft kiss, before he's slipping off, arranging himself so he's learning back against the headboard, gently guiding Ignis to come into him.] Go to sleep. You can flirt with me more later.
[There will never be anyone else for Ignis; no one else will hear the words he says between the sheets, in a low voice. They are meant only for Noctis, and Noctis alone. If he could, he'd forbid heavens to listen in.
He waits for a moment for Noct to settle down and lets him pull into the embrace. He rests his head in the crook of Noct's neck, on his shoulder, his hand resting over Noct's waist.]
[Ignis very easily, and very quickly too, falls asleep. He wasn't lying when he said that he sleeps the best when he has Noctis to embrace. Especially here, now that they are together, he got so used to it that he couldn't fall asleep otherwise.
He wakes up after a few hours. Despite not having slept for a long time, his internal clock still wakes him up. A smile creeps up on his face when he hears Noct's soft breath and he shifts just enough so he can look up at him.
[Always on the opposite side of every spectrum, Noctis possesses no such internal clock. In fact, he would happily sleep for the rest of the day and into the night were he given the chance.
But he feels Ignis stir beside him, around him, and he shifts, having slipped down into his sleep and rolled onto his stomach, bringing more of his face into the light. Speaking despite the way his eyes remain closed.]
[Ignis' lips twitch in a gentle smile and his hand comes up to brush away bangs from Noct's face. The fingers linger over the cheekbone and jaw until the hand settles between them, finding Noct's again and bringing it briefly to his lips.]
I will sleep more, love, don't worry.
[He promised. And Ignis always holds his promises. But he does watch Noct's face for a while longer, until Noct's even breathing lulls him into sleep again.]
Such a simple request, drifting through the foggy haze of sleep. But even in his dreams that tension is there, pulling at him. Threatening to send waves of anxiety crashing up and over, until the force is too much and he's dragged under.
It was far more difficult to somehow slip from the arms of his love, sliding from the warmth of their bed and into the bathroom, only his lantern to light the way. But the heat of the water was heavenly, a welcome respite from the chill he was certain had settled into his bones. Despite how quiet he tried to be, there was no masking the rush of falling water.]
[It's hard not to worry around here, Ignis knows that. And he doesn't blame Noct for not being able to subside it. He wishes he could somewhat lift the fear that's clinging onto him and take it as his own. Because they match- the fear of losing one another to this dark world.
So, even when Ignis hears the water running in the bathroom, he stays put. Because he promised. He's not sleeping by a long shot, but he's keeping his eyes closed, fingers curling into still slightly warm sheets where Noctis had laid minutes ago. This place worries them all and Ignis refuses to add to it.]

Be careful on your way over
Spirits ambushed the people that stayed awake. We don't know what else might happen
[He'll sleep calmer and better when he knows Noct is next to him and safe.]

Admit that more often
I'll be fine
I'm not afraid of them
no subject
Never less, never more
It is not about being afraid of them
But of them attacking in groups and attacking people by surprise.
It doesn't hurt to be on the guard.

You know I can take care of myself, right?
You and Gladio taught me well, Iggy

[Noct is used to it. Mostly. But this is on another level.]
Go
Rest
Royal order and all that

[Stop being cute Noct]
I will sleep peacefully when you arrive
Half an hour doesn't matter
[He'll probably be dozing on their bed though...]

[Not if it helps take your mind off things.]
You're also the most stubborn person I've ever met
And I know myself
no subject
I think we both match in stubbornness
And yet somehow get along
I suppose it's the years of knowing each other

Pretty sure you have me beat
You always were better at everything

Not in everything.

Don't sell yourself short, darling.

[You hear that sound? It's the front door opening and Noct's quiet footsteps coming up the stairs.]

Mmm... my words are for your ears only.

Thank you, Noct...

[He didn't actually intend to sleep. But he had his tablet to keep him company. At least until he finally gave in and decided to nap.
Only after dropping the device directly into his face at least twice.]
