That is very admirable but Noctis doesn't have faith in himself. He had a rough go of it after losing Ignis in Altissia. He learned the hard way just how much he depended on him. He was a useless person after that, not counting his ensuing depression. At least they were reunited though things seemed to be strange between them. There was the familiar closeness and yet there was something new. Something keeping them apart. Ignis had a strange reluctance that Noctis blamed on his failure. It had to be. Ignis made the ultimate sacrifice and Noctis didn't deliver.
The smile helps though.
"Ah... coffee and I... no. Thanks though." he needed to be more honest here, he was dead after all, even if he tried to pretend in life he could admit it in death. Coffee was a vile drink. "More for you anyway. What are you reading? How are you still working in the afterlife anyway?"
Ignis wanted to be there the rest of the way, he always did; he wanted to see him go through life and finally be crowned as a King he is. But he had to do what had to be done- if he didn't then there would've been no chances for Noctis to do anything. He hopes Noctis understood that and wasn't angry with him about the decision, even if he wouldn't be surprised or offended if he were.
The reluctance in the air wasn't because of Noct's 'failure', but because of one who was here before him. Who seemingly died in Altissia, at the same time as he did. Trying to grasp that there are realities beyond the one he existed in is hard. Not to mention what happened with them while he was here...
But he will always have a smile for Noctis, regardless from what parallel dimension he is.
"There is some juice." Of course, he has a backup. Then he looks briefly at the device, "Ah, this is hardly something to classify as 'work'. I am just reading news and updates. New things are being discovered daily so it is good to keep informed."
Noctis was never angry, not at Ignis. More at himself, for needing such a sacrifice. What a horrific way to realize he was in over his head and needed to take this shit seriously like ten years ago. What a way to die...
Noct had no idea there had been anyone else. Of course, it was beyond him, that would have to be explained as well though he was primed for this one. He now knew people could be from totally different worlds. He knew there were different universes now. The things you learn when you're dead...
Clearly this Ignis was his Ignis. How could he be anything else? They only had themselves. He was the only Noctis looking at the only Ignis, grateful he had a backup beverage to offer.
"It's fruit juice right?" if Ignis tried to pull a fast one and provide vegetable or some other green type of juice Noctis would rebel. "That sounds like something you'd say. You work, it's your hobby. Except now I'm here and you can get back to your real hobby."
They were all in over their heads when it came to Astrals, the task shoved at them without any time for research and preparation. With the way things panned out until Ignis' death, he was surprised they managed to please any of the Astrals. Of course, Ignis' faith in them waned after for other reasons...
Ignis should probably explain it to him one of these days, that there was different Noct here unless Lunafreya or Prompto bring it up themselves. That the timelines exist and different versions of themselves as well. But Noct was still accepting the fact that he died, that they are both here in some type of afterlife, so he will give him a moment to adjust.
"Of course. Orange." Picked up from the general store. "My real hobby?" Ignis raises his eyebrows. Does he mean cooking?
Noctis happened to be very charming thank you. He could please the astrals on his own, it is not so strange an idea is it? Actually, he knows it is. Why did they just bend over for him? Ramuh especially didn't seem to require much of anything from him and he even helped delay the theft of the regalia so he could reclaim it.
Noctis won't understand that at all. No matter who brings it up. For now he will simply pour himself some juice and sit with Ignis.
"Yes, minding the baby." is it not that obvious? Should he go find a pacifier to suck on for the sake of the joke?
He does have a certain charm to him, Ignis cannot lie. He just can't pinpoint what it is. As for the Astrals... Ignis doesn't think it's the charm that won them over, especially not Titan. The guy was pretty determined to make bloody pancakes out of them. Ramuh might have the most blessings from Ignis for not hunting them down.
Ignis squints at him over the mug. "Minding the baby?" ...Noct is talking about himself, isn't he? Ignis sighs into the cup as he takes a sip. "Odd. I do not remember getting married and having a child." He gives Noctis a pointed look with raised eyebrows. If it is a joke, let's play it.
He would hope Ignis thought more of his charm than that. Maybe an irresistible charm perhaps? Something he can't possibly get enough of? Something that might necessitate they move from being awkwardly stepping around being a thing to being a thing? Noctis had no clue the baggage Ignis carried but he was so used to his steward holding that sort of thing in he didn't think much of it.
Noct pouted. "It was..." it was cute but that's embarrassing to say. He rubs the back of his head and looks away. "You want to get married first? Didn't know you were so traditional, Iggy."
"Having a child outside of marriage is irresponsible, in my opinion. Not that I plan on having any." Considering their current situation and Ignis' feelings for Noctis. He wasn't sure how he was going to handle those while he was alive. Getting himself buried in work would've probably done the 'trick'.
"Regardless, I like looking after you. Cooking for you. I have never seen a person that's as excited for my cooking as you are and," he smiles a bit, "it makes me really happy."
