The last thing I remember is activating some kind of program. I clearly remember everything that was written in research log, but items on the museum catalog list are a tad bit hazy.
We woke up with our lanterns by our bedside on the ferry. How did they know what type of lantern to send us? How did they manage to fit our light in it?
There was storage in the next room over, holding a variety of lanterns. They all looked different. I saw ours. Some were old, and broken. Some didn't look like any I've seen on people here so far.
[ Castiel's brows are furrowed. ]
The question I find myself asking is whether they might not have made copies of us, rather than just the lanterns. People return through the church, correct - regardless of what happens to their body? As long as the lantern is recovered?
[That sounds like some kind of necromancy type of magic.]
For that to hold true, there has to be something that copies our life light as well. After all, it is said that we cannot live without it in the lantern. How does one replicate life?
[ Castiel gazes out across wat little of the water they can see at this, sharp features troubled. ]
Magic. Science. Perhaps a combination of both. It's just a theory for now, but. I'm unable to shake it.
[ He puts his hands in the pockets of his coat, but keeps his gaze adrit. ]
When we perish here, there's a chance we come back as long as the lantern can be recovered? Does it not stand to reason, then, that the lantern holds the key to what we are, here? All of us have died, and yet this is unlike any form of after life I've ever heard of. Yet there is power and energy and value in souls, and their equivalents.
So us being tied to this place is because of the lanterns. Hmmm... what kind of material does it have to be to make such a lantern? Back home, we had a thing called 'magitek'- a metal that could easily conduct magic. It wasn't used by my ruling city, but by the Niflheim empire.
I have to admit magic of that kind is... beyond my inherent knowledge. I don't doubt that it exists, and know of effects from my world that aren't dissimilar.
[ But casting such spells, making a reality of such speculations... he wouldn't know where to start. ]
From what I know of witchcraft, components are not always as important as intent.
Our magic is quite different from this as well. As far as my knowledge goes, there is no magic to bring back the dead.
[Only plague to turn them into daemons over and over again. The Usurper's immortality is magic beyond even the Astrals.]
Intent? You mean force of will bringing this to reality? While I admire the strength needed for it, you can't do anything without something to begin with. There had to be a base, some kind of source.
[ Not even Creation happened entirely out of nothing. And humans, while designed and planned for, got their through evolution. Angels are light and energy given shape. They were created, but not without that light and those energies existing in the first place. It was God's Will that gave shape to the base, though. And it's a witch's will that turns herbs and incantations into spells. ]
The question then becomes what source was drawn from, and whose will was exacted upon it.
