CHARACTER INFO

Character Name: Ignis Scientia
Age: 22
Canon: Final Fantasy XV

World Description: Here

History: Here

Death: Ignis dies after confrontation with Ardyn at the Altar of the Tidemother. The Usurper was trying to interrupt Noctis from receiving the blessing from the Astral and hurt him, so Ignis rushed to his side, wanting to lend him a hand and help him. However, the battle to reach the altar and battle with Ravus significantly tire him out and he's easily overpowered by Ardyn's magitek army. He makes a move to kill Noctis and in the last act of desperation, Ignis uses the Ring of the Lucii.

The Ring could be worn without consequences and its power used only by someone from Lucis Caelum Royal line. Ignis had to go through a check by the Kings of Old whether he's worthy of the powers. They decide that he is and grant him control over the Ring for a short period of time- enough to save Noctis. However, in return, Ignis had to pay the price for the powers he receives- he exchanges his life for a chance to save Noctis.

He manages to repel Ardyn and falls down, next to Noctis, who seems knocked out, apologizes and dies when the powers of the Ring wear off.

What are your plans for this character in-game? When Ignis puts the Ring on in the game, he is more than aware that there will be a price to pay for what he does. He doesn't die in the game (the price was his eyesight instead of his life), but having him actually die at the hand of Old Kings and the Ring- I always wanted to explore that aspect of him. Would he feel bitter? Annoyed? Would he feel any regret for being so reckless and using the Ring, leaving his King behind and using the Ring without permission? He is a complex character whose motivations revolve around his Prince/King (90% of the time) so with that aspect of him ripped away because he died- what is left? That's what I want to explore.

What aspects of this game and/or its setting are you most interested in having this character engage with? Nothing makes light except the bonfire and what little lantern can provide. That alone makes the entire setting so oppressive and it is amazing. Ignis will find that particularly weird. No sunrise, time becomes irrelevant. He's heard of a prophecy that announces coming of eternal darkness, but not in the afterlife. So... is this it? Is he actually dead? It will be fun to see him torn between the things he sees and his logic and knowledge.

How does your character generally get along with other people? Ignis is a very polite, eloquent person. He's raised to be Royal Advisor to King Noctis, once the Prince ascends to the throne, so he knows his way with words, knows how to read between the lines. There is a dose of distrust in him; as an Advisor, he has to be careful not make a mistake of befriending wrong people and therefore endanger King's life. Not much will change in the afterlife, but he might drop his guard down a little- he's dead after all. There's nothing to be worried about... right?

What is your character's mental state upon entering the game? Worried, because the last thing that Ignis witnessed was Noctis laying on the ground, unmoving, upon the altar. Otherwise, he'll be calm and composed, as he always is, perfectly aware of the state he is in. He chose to do this, he knew the price and embraced the consequences coming to him with it.

Skills/Abilities:
  • Weapon Proficiency: Ignis is well versed in using any type of dagger, knife or polearm. However, the base of Ignis' true powers is his use of elements.
  • Elemental Proficiency: His ability to infuse his (and Noctis') weapons with elemental magic will be nerfed.
*Fire: Ignis uses fire daggers for one-on-one combat which deals an exquisite amount of damage. Nerf: damage overall and fire doesn't cast light.
*Lightning: Ignis uses lightning damage to close the distance between the enemies. He can't warp like Noctis, so this is the closest he has. He is really fast but the damage is light. Nerf: The distance he reaches enemies is smaller and lightning doesn't procure light.
*Ice: Ignis uses ice daggers in a wide circle around himself, slowing the enemies and causing medium damage. Nerf: I will be keeping the slow part of the ability but the radius is significantly smaller.
*Elemental Enhancement: Ignis' analytical skills allow him to analyze the enemy and spot the weakness. He then imbues Noctis' weapon for the next several attacks with the element that the monster is weak to. I can either lower the duration of enhancement or remove it, I am open to suggestions on this one.
*Elemental Grenades: Bombs containing specific elements within them. Nerf: Radius and strength. Fire and Lightning don't procure light.
  • Tactical skills:
*Regroup: He recalls the entire party to his side and completely heals them, readying them for a new attack. I will only keep the healing aspect of this, and that will be nerfed too. The healing will handle only minor wounds, which in the game would be equivalent to 100hp being restored.
*Poison (Venom Fang): Ignis' daggers have a 50/50 chance of inflicting poison. The odds are increased if he is attacking in combination with Noctis to 60%. It does damage over time and any type of antidote can stop it.

Flaws/Weaknesses: Ignis' major weakness is his unmoving devotion to Noctis. The man is ready to fight Astrals and Kings of Old themselves if he has to. Ignis picks up and puts on the Ring of Lucii, fully aware that he can not use it and that there will be consequences.

Some of it comes from the fact that he was raised to be his protector, some of it comes from the fact that he grew up with Noctis. He met the Prince when he was the age of seven and spent a lot of time together; Ignis always looked after him, in every way- from making sure he eats, has proper clothes, whether his homework is done, etc. The group jokes that he's 'mother figure' and, well, he kind of is. Any mention of people threatening to Noctis will instantly put him in defensive, "I'll hunt you down in the afterlife if I have to" mode, and not only he's willing to do it- he is capable of doing it.

Other weaknesses, albeit not as prominent as the one already mentioned, are:
  • Reckless: Tying into the previous weakness, Ignis becomes reckless when Noctis is in immediate danger and he's not there with him to help him or protecting him. During his DLC, Gladio tells him to remain calm and wait for them, but he becomes too impatient and removes the earpiece he's been using to communicate with Gladio and makes his way towards the Altar by himself. And I already mentioned him using the Ring- that is the pinnacle of his recklessness and it results in his death (blindness in the game).
Note: This trait tends to emerge only when Noctis' life is threatened
  • Perfectionist: It goes to the point where he wears glasses only because he wants his eyesight to be crystal clear. The guy doesn't need glasses, he has passable vision without them. He just prefers to have 'full picture at all times'. He can lose composure when things don't go the way he had planned them. He makes up for this with the fact that he's quick on his feet and intelligent enough to get everyone out of danger before it becomes a disaster.
  • Pride: Stemming from being perfectionist, Ignis takes huge pride in everything he does. His fighting skills, his tactical skills, his cooking skills. It comes to the point where he becomes offended when Prompto says he looks forward to Iris' cooking.
  • He's addicted avid coffee drinker. Becomes grumpy when he doesn't have a cup of Ebony in a while.

    Personality:
Out of the four in the group, Ignis is the one with a calm personality, assessing things down to the last detail and developing plans for further action- whether it is battle or diplomatic strategy. From the day Noctis had been placed under his care by King Regis, Ignis took the request and the responsibilities very seriously.

Many of Ignis’ traits come from the years of retainer's training. Outstandingly talented and intelligent, Ignis was schooled to be the prince’s right hand when he grows up and ascends the throne. Eloquent and well mannered, polite but very hard to read. He is not fond of ambiguity, doesn't like to let things "just happen and see how they go"; his plans are always explained to the last detail and he likes when the rest of the group acts accordingly.

Although appearing to be very stern on the outside, Ignis had always had a soft spot for Noctis, his misadventures and rebellious nature. More often than not, the Advisor would take the blame for anything that happens, which mostly included Noct sneaking out somewhere where he shouldn't be. Ignis is often reprimanded by Gladio for "babying Noct", especially when it came to Noctis’ eating habits.

Ignis is the cook of the group- at first, it was a chore for him but later it became a hobby that he really got involved with, carrying a pen and notebook at his persona at all times, in case inspiration strikes for a new recipe. Aside from enjoying making his friends smile with fine meals, he also makes sure that the meals he cooks for them are tasty and nutritious enough- even for the picky Prince who detests vegetables and would rather eat a shoe than beans. His current goal is to recreate pastry Noctis ate a long time ago in Tenebrae. So far, he had only come close to it once.

Jokes tend to fly over his head at times, but he has a deep appreciation for a very well placed pun.

Items: After wrapping up the battle with Ardyn, Ignis has on himself:
  • A pair of daggers (if they are allowed)
  • His glasses
  • Crownsguard Fatigues, No Jacket
